TAGETES OIL

 

Tagetes oil is obtained by steam distillation of overground flowering parts of Tagetes glandulifera Schrank (syn.: Tagetes minuta L.)

 

1.     Organoleptic Properties:

Appearance                :      Mobile liquid.

Color                          :      Dark yellow to orange yellow.

Aroma                        :      Intensely herbaceous-green, with a sweet-fruity undertone and a somewhat bitter-herby dryout.

 

2.      Physico-chemical properties:

Specific gravity           :      0.85030 to 0.8790 at 250 C.

Optical rotation           :      [-] 50 to [-] 10.50 at 250 C.

Refractive index          :      1.464 to 1.4789 at 250 C.

Acid number               :      1.2 to 2.5

Ester number              :      12 to 20

Ester number

after acetylation          :      50 to 75

Tagetone content        :      24 to 45%

Solubility                    :      Soluble in 0.3 to 1.8 volumes of 90% alcohol.

 

3.      Packing :

In aluminum container and epoxy-coated metallic barrels - 10kg, 25 kg, 50 kg, 100 kg capacities.

 

4.      Use:

(a)               As a modifier in hair lotions of the bay rum type; as a flavoring agent.

(b)               Aromatherapeutic uses:

Athlete's foot, ringworm, absence of menstruation.

Caution:

Do not use this oil to pregnant and children.
